The genesis for this piece was when I held my daughter for the first time. At that moment I felt me, as a baby, being held by my mother. Several years later I began to try to find form for that experience and what I thought it meant. I realized that mothers had been holding their daughters, who would hold their daughters from the time of Eve. It is our species' unbroken thread through time. After completing this piece I learned that all humans today carry the mitochondrial DNA from 'Eve' - again, on another level - our thread.
